ROBINSON FREDERICK

One of the most fun ways to get a peek into another person’s life is to experience their city like a local would -- with a homebase in a their space. LifeSwap takes the fun of living how a stranger does one step further. We’ve teamed up with AirBnB to give you a taste of what it’s like to step into someone else’s shoes. We can safely say that this is the best giveaway of any SXSW party around.

Final Farewell

Day 4 is about the word on every marketer’s mouth. Everyone’s focusing on it, but it’s not a focused word. What does it mean exactly? Why does it matter? And how do we do it right? Attend small group workshops about mobile ads, mobile responsive site and mobile app development. Learn about the rapid rise of mobile browsing (and what that means to us) in our interactive globe installation. And hear from Ruth McCarthy, Founder of Mobili Media, about how to get caught up -- and then get ahead.

Artists

ALYAH BAKER —

Dance

“Black. Queer. Woman. My existence as a triple outsider is what fuels my creative endeavors and has led me to a life at the intersection of art, activism, and social justice. In personal and professional realms, my work explores and encourages bold self expression and authentic communication. All facets of my creative inquiry converge with dance: on the dance floor, stage or any other platform where i am moving and using my body as a tool of expression. Art, and dancing in particular, have the ability to remind us of our shared humanity. It is from that place, aware of and connected as humans, that I hope art transforms and spurs us into action.”

CARRIE LEILAM LOVE —

Photography

“the world is a fucked up place full of gold and grit. i am a conduit for all of it. look. i made a dreamscape where black girls hold hands under a sky so pink you smell roses. i saw trash in the street glittering with dew and showed you this, too. i am living an everyday osmosis between cosmos and concrete, and here it all is. go, look. i use film exclusively because i'm an earth baby and i need to touch a thing. i make self-portraits because my heart holds an ore so rich it will yield forever, and to nothing. “

ARI TAKATA-VASQUEZ –

Mixed Media

“I draw inspiration from architecture, the built environment, natural forms, textiles, and photography. In addition to scenic paintings, I create abstracted sculptural mixed medium paintings incorporating clay. My work examines another way of seeing space and scale.”

DANA E. FITCHETT —

Dance

“I make embodied and drawn movement art that aims to heal and inspire. My art practice is a guide on the path toward individual and collective liberation, heavily influenced by my experience of race, oppression, and colonized ways of being. Making myself invisible is something I’ve long struggled with; rendering collective history invisible—especially histories of the enacting and experiencing of oppression—is a characteristic of American culture. My work has become a space for me to indulge and honor my full self and encourage others to indulge and honor the same in themselves.”

WHY YOU SHOULD CARE

Introducing LifeSwap. An app that connects you to people who are willing to trade lives. For real.

Ever wonder what it’d be like to be a music teacher in Nashville? A children’s book illustrator in Brooklyn? A human rights activist in DC?

LifeSwap is a brand new company founded by a former Couchsurfing engineer and Facebook creative director. It takes the idea of authentic travel to a new (Freaky Friday-esque) level.

It’s a social network that facilitates real LifeSwaps: you go to someone’s city, live in their home, hang with their friends and family, do their jobs, attend their events and activities. Yes, it’s totally intense… and it’s totally thrilling. Call us crazy, but we don’t think the best memories are made in the comfort zone.

Come check us out at the party (and sign up for a LifeSwap account at one of our stations while you’re at it). Bottom line: it’s a startup launch. Good times will be had by all.

Who's Who?

For the past five years, we have scoured the U.S. to curate a best-in-class roster of speakers representing the hottest sectors, industries and disciplines.

The program for this year’s LifeSwap event is our best yet, if we do say so ourselves.

For three incredible days, you’ll have a front-row seat to unscripted fireside chats, hands-on workshops, interactive presentations, and engaging keynotes from fearless marketers who are pushing boundaries and setting new standards.

PEOPLE TO SEE

CAMILA & ARJUN

The head honchos will kick the night off with a toast. They’ll probably tell the hilarious story about how they thought up LifeSwap. And hopefully they’ll remember to tell you that everyone who attends the party is gets $100 in Airway Bed credit.

Alena Museum

Alena Museum is nonprofit 501(c)3 creative space that houses multi-disciplinary arts and work studios to cultivate the cultural richness of the African Diaspora. In the African language of Tigrinya Alena translates to “we are here!" Alena Museum declares that "we are here" by providing access for the African Diaspora to create original work and keep dedicated space for creative expression, in the face of the rapid displacement of these communities as a result of gentrification. We are empowering our community to be active players in this new economy in order to directly mitigate displacement and marginalization.

Data Driven Marketing

We’re capturing more data than ever before. And we’re doing it more precisely. But we’re still not using data to its full potential. Used well, numbers can teach us about each other, inspire our creativity and help us take risks and innovate in our work.

One highlight of the day: Peer Exchange sessions, where you can learn about the interesting ways people are using data in the industry. And don’t miss James Frederick’s impressive presentation about a rare skill -- data design.

SATURDAY

Do Well, and Do Good

How do we find meaning in marketing? Is it possible to do more in this industry than help companies sell stuff?

Sure is. Howard Fowler of Tunate Consulting will explain how marketers can use our insights and knowledge about the customer to influence and improve the bigger business strategy.

If you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done.
